Places of Interest

The National Trust and English Heritage are also well represented to add to the enjoyment of holidays in Cornwall. With miles of unspoiled coastline and many fine houses and gardens open to the public, the choice is wide and varied. The many other gardens in Cornwall are a special delight in the spring when they provide a blaze of dramatic colours.

For a few of the area’s less well known attractions, there’s Carn Brea Castle, the Carn Brae monument or the ‘Cup and Saucer’ rock near Redruth. Alternatively, try the Cornish Cyder Farm in Truro, or a little further afield The Cornish Birds of Pray Centre in Colum, and the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe. Pendennis Castle near Falmouth or Roseland Peninsular could also make part of an interesting day trip for your holidays in Cornwall.

Delightful fishing villages like Mevagissey are also a charming insight to Cornish life and an idyllic choice for holidays in Cornwall. Easily reached by road, and just 5 miles from St Austell, Meva has the added advantage of being served by the regular main line train from London to Penzance.

Local bus services connect to Mevagissey, outlying villages and the city of Truro. Also St Austell connects to the National Express coach network. Local taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.

A great trip idea to try during your holidays in Cornwall is the ferry from Meva to Fowey, which is regular and very informative.  Only taking 35 minutes it is quicker than driving and much more fun. Basking whales have also been known to make an appearance during the trip.
